Myoung-goo HA

Korea b.1983

Myoung-goo HA, 河明求, 하명구

Myounggoo HA connects the memories of the lands of Japan and Korea of his home country, with“Dokkaebi” series.

Dokkaebi are supernatural creatures from Korean folklore and are symbolic existences that give us a glimpse into the way of life and sensibilities of their ancestors. Ha’s Dokkaebi are seen as intimate and humorous gods with unique and innocent facial expressions.

Time and memories are very important themes in his current works and he is interested in and inspired by things that have existed longer than the physical life of human beings. They cover from religious stuff and artworks to daily stuff bear traces of people of the past.

He is deepening his research into the ancient history and culture of Japan and Korea and analyzing the significance and formative characteristics of Haniwa, ancient earthenware produced in Japan and Korea during the Kofun period, which is said to be the root of ancient Japan-Korea exchanges. He’s new series “Haniwa” are produced as potteries that convey the sense of the current era and memories of the land, like as ancient Haniwa have been evaluated as historical materials conveying the era as forms and the formative characterstics of vertical formativeness and relationship between inner and outer sides shown by their holes.

His works are represented in the collections of Marunuma Art Park (Japan), CNCITY  Maum Organization (Korea), Asaka City (Japan), Futaba Sports (Japan),
Ha Jung Woong Collection (Japan) and etc.
